    ガリル Galil

The IMI Galil is a family of military firearms that first entered service in 1972, designed by Yisrael Galili and Yakov Lior in the late 1960s. Recognizable by its flip-up aperture sights on the dust cover, vertical charging handle, rectangular one-piece handguard, skeletonized metal folding stock and a gas block with straighter profile. Based on the Rk62 and similarly utilizing an AK-style gas piston system, it has been developed into several variants, such as:

    • Galil AR - the original 5.56mm assault rifle with slightly-curved slimmer rectangular handguard. (post #1293721)
    • Galil ARM - light machine gun with notably blockier wooden handguard, carry handle and a "wire-cutter" bipod. (post #1333214)
    • Galil SAR "Glilon" - shorter variant of Galil AR. Smallest one is the Galil MAR. (post #1985402)
    • Galil 7.62 - battle rifle chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. Notice the thicker, straight box magazine. Unlike curved ones belong to the three 5.56mm counterparts. (post #6409080)
    • Galil Galatz - distinctively equipped with a scope and bipod for sniper/designated marksman use. Has (post #6003226)
    • This tag can also apply to the South African-produced Vektor R4. (post #3181449)
