An antagonist in Tales of Legendia, Merines can hear the will of the planet's sea god Nerifes, and she acts according to its will. Shirley Fennes is pressured into becoming the Merines and carrying out Nerifes' wish to destroy the world.
Nerifes is actually split into two personalities - 'Raging Nerifes' and 'Quiet Nerifes'. The Merines hears the will of Raging Nerifes.
