The second game in tri-Ace's Star Ocean series, and the first to be localized to the west on the Playstation in 1999. It was remade and re-released for the PSP in 2008-2009 and for the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita in 2015 (Japan only) under the title Star Ocean: Second Evolution. A second remake under the title Star Ocean: The Second Story R was released on Nintendo Switch in November 2023.
