tortoiseshell-framed eyewear
Eyewear which its frames has pattern that replicates the look and pattern of a tortoise shell. Such style of eyewear were first popularized in the 1920s and the frames were made of real turtles and large tortoises. To prevent the animals from becoming extinct, the practice was quickly banned worldwide in the 1970s (1973) due to an intervention from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
Today, the frames of tortoiseshell-frame eyewear are manufactured from high-quality polymer, such as stained acetates.
