transformers: generation 1

G1 戦え!超ロボット生命体トランスフォーマー トランスフォーマー2010

"ROBOTS IN DISGUISE...!!!" - Official slogan.

The original 1984 Transformers toyline and cartoon series, retroactively referred to as Generation 1 (or G1) after the Generation 2 toyline's release. The series consists of 4 TV seasons with a theatrical film set at the midpoint, as well as two companion comic runs by Marvel - one produced in the US, and the other in the UK.

The G1 TV cartoon is notable because it was made in an 80s mecha anime style. The box art for the toys based on the cartoon was made by Jeffrey Mangiat. For art done in his style see Jeffrey Mangiat (style). The Marvel comics company also contributed to the original franchise by developing the whole fictional Generation 1 universe of the TV series and its robot characters info and backgrounds, all created by Marvel comics writer Bob Budiansky.

The Transformers: Generation 1 tag is for the original series and supplementary media only. In Japan, the G1 continuity lasted much longer and encompassed several non-G1 series in its framework; on Danbooru G1 follows the original G1 continuity, so the several direct sequels G1 received that are exclusive to Japan are not covered under this tag. For those series see the following tags:

  • Transformers: The Headmasters
  • Transformers Super-God Masterforce
  • Transformers Victory
  • Transformers Zone
  • Transformers: Return of Convoy
  • Transformers Operation Combination
  • Kiss Players

This tag implicates transformers (learn more).
