    and I don't know much about drugs, so is heroine a depressant? Aid to the sex?

    The drug is spelled Heroin (no 'e' at the end, that's a different word meaning "female hero"). It's a modified form of morphine that's ridiculously addictive.

    But when it was invented they didn't know about any of that (or didn't bother testing it well enough). Bayer pharmaceuticals had an existing product that you may have heard of: Aspirin. Well, they wanted to leverage their existing brand name, but make this new "wonder drug" sound even better. So they named it by using "hero" (as in superhero) and "in" (as in Aspirin), and got "Heroin".

    And then people figured out it was crazy addictive and so now its been propping up drug lords and opium farmers and even the Taliban, for decades. Not so heroic after all, huh?
