It actually is the most logical place. No one's watching you (usually, as long as you board up the windows) and you can make all kinds of noises without anyone thinking anything too wierd of it (If they say anything, just say you held it too long, gross topic in many parts but it's the lesser embarassment).
I don't think it was him contemplating anything. He did hit his head when Marisa jumped on top of him against the dresser. He's just reacting to it now because he wanted to keep his cool while in front of Marisa. Though that's just my interpretation
