You mean by the scruff of his neck, right? She's clearly not doing that. And looking at his face, the cat looks like he's crying, or maybe hissing. That might mean he's in pain, or just that he doesn't want to be picked up.
No, I've had cats all my life and done quite a bit of homework on 'em besides. They all have that extra skin, and picking them up like that doesn't hurt them unless they're obese. Chances are, the kitty in that pic is objecting to being picked up at all, or by some stranger.
Also, sphinx cats are hideous. They are to the housecat what chihuahuas are to the dog. Eugh.
