Literally have no idea why anyone would be able to hate Guam or dishwasher. Sheâs the first to have a giant mech plus shes like one of the only characters who actually does stuff other than fighting and being your wife (if you oathed her).

I agree but i've seen same complaints towards Musashi, FDG, Hindenburg, August and other shipgirls. Guess because they "arenât riggings anymore". But I donât know how you could have the heart to hate Guam she's basically a upscale Sandy. Only larger, shapelier, bustier and apparently a Idol/broadcaster?.
Kinda sad that the Historical meat riders are getting pressed asf that the newer riggings arent as dirt plain and modern as the Kancolle riggings and that azur has started to try and distinguish itself from that game in its own way. We donât need a second kancolle yall, go play kancolle if your mad bout these crazier n better riggingsđ
I have a lot of complaints and criticism mainly she's WW2 Guam with a Guam-II design which sums-up my view by a lot and I mean a lot is condensed by that statement. I do love the mech design and it deserves a kit. Here's the thing though.... ALL SHIP GIRLS DESERVE LOVE!!!

Even if the Shipgirl has absolutely no relation to the ship in question? Or the ship in question never even existed? You do realize they're just fictional characters, right? The whole point of shipgirls is to explore history and Azur Lane has had a serious and ongoing problem with doing that.

Sure, AL is based in history, but it has also developed as its own fictional universe. imo the game would be a lot less interesting if it just mindlessly mirrored the past.

While that is acceptable to an extent, a lot of Azur Lane's shipgirls have only had an incredibly surface-level amount of research going into their characters and in some very egregious examples, looking at Wikipedia would not only allow someone to create a more historically accurate character but also a more interesting one. The worst example would have to be Radford since the historical ship having a motto claiming that she's the king of sub-hunting would definitely be some very good fodder for characterization. Instead, we have a generic little girl with a sweet tooth. I also get the feeling that making Niizuki better than Helena at radar usage (also historically accurate) would be a great part of her character and using Ayanami's "Black Panther" moniker (a reference to how well the historical ship was able use the cover of night during 2nd Guadalcanal) to add to her character would be truly epic. (Can you honestly tell me you don't want to see the demon god as a ninja?) And let's not forget that referencing the West German destroyer Z6 would be some great character development for Charles Ausburne but I'm really not holding my breath waiting for that to happen and to use a more recent example, Flasher's personality is not only incredibly ahistorical, it's downright confusing with no real rhyme or reason behind it.
Yongshi also has a nasty tendency of breaking established conventions with character design without first considering why those conventions are in place. (Yes, the massive riggings might look cool at first until you realize that it just obfuscates the designs of the actual girls.) This is leading to the designs getting progressively worse at communicating what kind of ship you're looking at since you don't know which class it's a part of or even if it's a destroyer or a battleship. I understand that Azur Lane has to differentiate itself from other shipgirl properties but the developers have not chosen those differences in an intelligent fashion.

That's a perfectly valid outlook, but these shipgirl designs also have to goal of appealing not just to history buffs who know a lot about the vessels themselves, but also more casual players who just want a cool/cute girl. As far as the second goal is concerned, character like guam are great. Ideally, they'd strike a balance between the two, but I think characterizing the design as not "intelligent" isn't exactly what's happening here.

edit: and for the record, I'm not huge on some of the newer designs, and have never cared for characters representing ships that never existed. That being said, I don't see them as unsuccessful or unintelligent simply because I don't gel with the designs.

You do realize that the entire first paragraph of my comment was giving suggestions on how to improve both the historical accuracy and the likability of various shipgirls?
I originally had a long, rambling essay here, but I'm just going to condense my thoughts into one paragraph:
It's important for AL to distinguish itself from KanColle, absolutely it is. But they were already distinct, with flashier characters, more fanservice, and a deeper, more complex story and world-building. Now it's gone full-on Fate, with ridiculous, over-the-top designs, endless duplicates of already-existing ships, and no interest in history whatsoever. Maybe that's OK for some people, but as someone who finds history endlessly fascinating, it makes me wonder, why even make it about real-life ships in the first place?
Aether Gazer, Manjuu's other major IP, has designs pretty similar to AL's; lots of little high-tech details, big sprite backgrounds, and plenty of fanservice. Why not go hog-wild with that instead?

I think itâs more of the artistâs fault for no âhistorical accuracyâ, because theyâre the ones who design most of the ships and their personality usually relates to their design somewhat. Also, everything you said about fate is true except for the âfull-onâ part, they only go over the top sometimes, the âendless duplicatesâ and they still most definitely still care about history.
