This is rare... most of the time it's Marisa but now instead it's Reimu... but this will happen eventually unlike Sanae who has divine bloodline (and has gods as relatives) Reimu is a normal human and with the ravage of time I doubt that she'll last and eventually this will happen....
I doubt it.... cause in all the history of Gensokyo... there is no mention of any other Hakurei... as if Gensokyo's history is really just one of Keine's many fabrications!

lolwut? there's none mentioned by name specifically, but Reimu's profile does specifically mention previous Hakurei shrine maidens and the fact that she is the last of them

WhatYouSay? Mima's clearly makes mention to previous Generations of the Hakurei line. Actually, Mima's hatred towards Reimu was based on her hatred towards the family line in the first place. Learn to Touhou.
Yeah I know about Reimu's profile and Mima's story but it still perplexes me that Reimu does not acknowledge them nor does we see any existence that they were there.... Still considering Reimu's personality... maybe that's why....
considering how young Reimu was when the series started, it's probable her parents died when she was very young, probably around five. That's why she had no idea how to use her powers other than "whack the ball" and "toss ofuda and needles" to anything that gets close

Possible, but canonically she just doesn't like to train and wasn't so diligent once, which is partially why she was so limited. And she's always been in her mid-teens, so she wasn't that young in HRtP. She just doesn't age.
Theory wise it's also possible that relative solitude (any attendants, robot maids, turtles, freeloaders, bothersome ghosts, or annoying friends aside) or only one Hakurei miko being active at a time / allowed to live in the main shrine is one of those unwritten tenets of the Hakurei clan.
Likewise, they could simply be estranged like Marisa and her family, retired and living elsewhere... or, at least, died somewhat recently, which may also explain why she wasn't so prepared at the start.
Its not that shes not aging. All the games do follow a timeline of "Game goes after the previous game". Its just that each game doesnt really skip a whole lot of time from the last game. Its practically ranging from a few months to at most a year.
Anyway it still stands that its possible Reimu did lose her parents at a young age since Mima often states that since Reimu does not have a proper teacher, she doesnt know how to utilize her Hakurei Orbs properly.

I never saw that as being an indication of mikos dying that quickly. Being as long lived as she is, she's seen a lot of humans come and go, Hakurei included. She really can't remember them all or how many there have been simply because of how long she's lived.
There's really not much in today's Gensokyo that will put a trained miko under anyway. Relations between human and youkai were progressing that much even before the advent of spell cards.
There will always be job hazards, but unless it's something like accumulated stress of the job or what the Children of Miare face, I don't believe they're dying off that soon that often. Or at least not recently.
I'm not saying it isn't possible that her parents died, but there are other possible reasons for their absence. At the least I don't think it had to do with youkai extermination.

Touhou time is roughly the same as ours. A year gone by to us is a year gone by on Gensokyo's timeline. Yes, time passes. However, just taking into account everything starting with the Windows generation, more years have gone by than Reimu has aged.
She’s still the same vague mid-teens age she’s always been. If she began at 15 or 16, then by all rights she should be in her 20s by now, and that’s not even counting PC-98. It’s the same concept as in the Simpsons or comic books.

The Hakurei line and the shrine itself was around before Gensokyo's sealing. For approximately thirteen generations to date it's stood.
It seems Aya is only talking about the miko who have served the Hakurei Shrine since it was built. But that's still anywhere from 200-300 years in total the shrine has been around.
Reimu's scenario in MoF subtly hints that she is the hakurei god.
To me it seems she's most likely the hakurei god that has recieved so little faith that even she has forgotten who she is, has weakened to the point of resembling a human and taken on the identity of one of her former mikos.
