They should start making those again. only take advantage of the different viewpoints the players have and make a VS game. AFAIK, back then they still made them, all the games were two player alternating. Which, really doesn't count as multiplayer.
The Family Computer did come out in 1983, albeit without the famous titles it would later see, such as Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Megaman, Mother, and that Karaoke game.
