Just considering a debate in other post (I think it's one of the 700+ pages in Dei Shirou's Tag Dream) that mentioned in canon it's mentioned there's only one dragon in Gensoukyou (the highest-ranked god in Gensoukyou who's never seen again since creation of the boundary), and Meiling is never mentioned to be a dragon youkai. So... taking that into thought :)

Right, because the Stronger one is ALWAYS the master right? Its not like like the squishy characters are never the master. There are lots of reasons a stronger character is serving a weaker a character. Loyalty, an oath, best freinds forever, etc etc.
I just can't help but to feel somewhat offended by how she could simply smack away the spear of Odin.... (yes, I do take Asa(/Aesir/Asgard) quite seriously)

So your saying meiling can beat remi? Dont forget what category of manga your reading here.

It's touhou, powerlevels aren't really a thing there but for the sake of the argument.
Following things canon wise, there's only one person who ever managed to get pass the gatekeeper through force and that's Reimu with Marisa simply sneaking in, and if you follow Hisoutensoku as "Canon", Meiling dropped the hint that if it was on an official fight, she can beat down Sakuya easily.
And throughout that, she's portrayed as some stupid joke character by majority of the fans.
Point is? if she was dead serious, she can quite possibly kick remi's ass canonically since she doesn't bother showing her real abilities, other wise, alot of people will have the stupid joke character ingrained in there heads with the fanworks.

Another contender for someone that doesn't bother going full power even if it means losing is Alice. Although its speculated that using the Grimoire would probably have drawbacks. It usually does no matter what version of fiction your reading about.

Thats right. CANONICALLY. I'm talking offically here. Fanworks isn't something I'm including in here.
LunarInsanity said: Thats right. CANONICALLY. I'm talking offically here. Fanworks isn't something I'm including in here.
Ok you got me lost there, but I'll say it again just incase you missed my point.
It's already Canon that the only said person to bypass the gatekeeper is Reimu, with that in mind, no one has passed the gates.
It's already Canon (Depends whether one consider Hisoutensoku / Hisouten / Suimusou Canon) that Meiling, on a formal duel, can beat down the Head Maid easily, and the only thing preventing her from doing that is because she respects the position they have in the Mansion.
Speaking on PMiSS, Meiling is versed in battle to the point she has no blind spot against human opponents nor any notable weak points, thus, the reason why she was appointed Gatekeeper in the first place. Due to her friendly nature, however, she has a low threat level, fulfilling her duty as a Gatekeeper by attacking only the ones who try to enter by force or the ones who challenge her to a 1 on 1 duel.
For the end of the lecture, Meiling can CANONICALLY kick Remilia's ass any day if she so ever wanted too. So unless you can prove Meiling can't win against Remilia cause she's a Stage 6 Boss and Meiling's a Stage 3, I really don't see any reason how she can lose.
EDIT:
Really now
LunarInsanity said: So your saying meiling can beat remi? Dont forget what category of manga your reading here.
So this must be one of your first times to read a Meiling that's close to being Canon? Because I for one, think you're lost between Canon and Fanon works for sprouting things like "Meiling can't win against Remila because Remilia's higher on the social status. If Meiling can win against her, they should just switch roles already"
So your saying that Marisa can't beat Meiling in Touhou Koumakyou? I dont think she sneaked in. Aside from this doujinshi, give me another official source that shows that Meiling is stronger than Remilia then? As I;ve said, whats canon to you guys ain't canon to ME.
By ZUN, another person who thinks that Touhou characters have an absolutely fixed power-level? Even if they did, Touhou battles in the Windows era are spellcard and danmaku battle. If you don't know what that means, you need to start reading or re-reading the "essential knowledge" parts of Touhou.
Finish EoSD on both characters without any continues on Normal, Hard or Lunatic Difficulty.
That is all.
And true to your words, you're probably one of the fans who think Meiling's the idiot who deserves to get knifed, Alice is a lesbian tsundere for Marisa and Kaguya's weaker than Eirin because Kaguya needs her.
LunarInsanity said: As I;ve said, whats canon to you guys ain't canon to ME.
What???? ZUN gets the final word in on everything and what he says is the law. This isn't about whats "Considered" canon, it's about what actually is canon. Ya know, because ZUN said so.

Sorry, but I know the difference between Fan works and offical, though I dont know about you guys. I've alr finished EoSD, which is why i participated in this debate and I think we should all just keep our ideas to ourselves. TO keep things peaceful, yea?

I'm not denying what ZUN said, fine, I admit I based their powers through their positions, but ZUN also never said that Meiling was stronger than Remilia. Did he?

Christ, mate. D'you know the meaning between Canon and Fanon? Like, at all?
Canon is information that's shown to be true in the series (ie what characters have which powers etc)
Fanon is assumptions and other types of fan-made theories based on the canon, that's taken as canon by the people who made up the assumptions (ie people making characters have powers because it makes sense for them to have the powers)
You can't argue that two people's canons are different, because canon is a constant in the series that people use to build their fanon (ie their assumptions on what should be happening in the series, even if it's not explicitly stated in the series' material). People can have different fanons, but not different canons.

Pretty much this. And to reinforce it:
Constant; Noun: A situation or state of affairs that does not change.

We still have these arguements here?
Some people are either slow, or trolls.
And just to Reinforce it some more:
Canon: Official, anything that is sanctioned by the owner of the work, proving all of the information in the work as true. (EG: Rumia is a youkai of the night that can control darkness)
Fanon: Things that fans have assumed is true based on the canon works, which haven't been explicitly stated as existing in the canon. (one example of fanon: Rumia is a retarded youkai who's actually got a power sealed within her, guarded by a ribbon she can't touch, and if removed, gets a huge sword and becomes an EX-Boss)

Yea. I know my meaning of canon is kinda screwed up. But lets just cut it short. I don't wanna argue anymore. We won't agree on anything like this.
If you don't want to get in arguments about the nature of Touhou characters, don't go around complaining that a decent representation of what a character is like in canon is absurd or ridiculous.
NOBODY has to except that what you think she should be like is superior, many people unsurprisingly get very annoyed when characters they like are completely derailed without good reason.
Touhou is a particular source of agitation about character derailment since the fan base produces so many works of it's own and there's such a wide variety of materials, not all people interested have actually played the games, the result is that when these people see the OOC doujins they actually think that's what the characters are like and the misunderstanding just spreads, irking those who like to see characters represented properly even more.
TL:DR You don't like canon Meiling FINE, just stick to doujins where she's the fanon chew toy rather than showing in the works other people like and suggesting that a canon representation is wrong. It's not funny, it's not clever.

I never complained about anything. I only said that to me, Meiling defeating Remilia is impossible, whether it be Canon or not. You know the difference between a complaint and a statement? Your saying this is what Meiling is like in Canon..? Are you sure? Have you played the games enough or read the comments about this page of the manga yet before you said that?
LunarInsanity said: Your saying this is what Meiling is like in Canon..? Are you sure? Have you read the comments about this page of the manga yet before you said that?
Have you? Go on, quote stuff. Prove your point that Meiling couldn't possibly defeat Remilia using information from the mangas and games.

Fine. So Meiling could easily beat Sakuya, thats fine. Besides your own ideas and conclusions, Where did you get the idea that Meiling could defeat Remilia?

That's not answering my question at all.
Have you read the mangas and seen the game endings that shows that Meiling can't defeat Remilia in a serious 1-on-1?
Your evidence doesn't work since it doesn't prove that Meiling CAN'T beat Remelia, in fact if Meiling couldn't beat Remelia they wouldn't both be in the game as it wouldn't work.
Ilosia said: Your evidence doesn't work since it doesn't prove that Meiling CAN'T beat Remelia, in fact if Meiling couldn't beat Remelia they wouldn't both be in the game as it wouldn't work.
Wait, so your saying that Meiling can beat Remilia, Or that Meiling can beat Remilia, but Remilia can also beat Meiling in the Touhou games?
Stop dodging around the point, as Jakebob demonstrated Meiling can beat Remilia in Hisoutensoku and Remilia being able to beat Meiling doesn't change that at all. Your claim was that it was impossible for Meiling to beat Remilia and your video does nothing to stop Jakebob's evidence proving that hypothesis wrong.

I meant that it is impossible for Meiling to beat Remilia in the story, not in the Touhou games. I'm not dodging around the point, I don't get what your trying to say.
And your justification for claiming that it's impossible for Meiling to beat Remiia in story but possible in the games is? It should not be neccesary to point out that right from the beginning the burden of proof has always been on you, you claimed that it was impossible for Meiling to beat Remilia which made it your responsability to provide evidence proving this hypothesis.

I dont have any justification if it's for the story. But I doubt you guys have any proof that Meiling could beat Remilia in the story?
Ilosia said: You still haven't provided any justification for claiming that the games don't count.
What I said was.. Meiling could defeat Remilia in the games, fine. What i MEANT was Meiling could never defeat Remilia in the story. What you said was to provide justification for saying that Meiling could never win Remilia in the story. Now I want to ask whether you have any justification for saying that Meiling could beat Remilia in the story?
I don't count the games because games are played by PEOPLE, not by the actual characters. It doesnt count that way. It differs, the character's skills depends on the players, not on themselves.
Which completely ignores the fact that if Meiling was incapable of beating Remilia then player skill WOULDN'T MATTER. If she was incapable then nothing she could do would have any affect and the result would be that they wouldn't be in the same game because it wouldn't work. Your argument is a flimsy excuse at best.

I'm talking about the games here. Whether Meiling beat Remilia or not depends on the character, do you agree? Story and games are different, you know?
Sod this, the "argument" is going nowhere because Lunar refuses to back down on his paper-thin excuse, and no-one at all seems to have any "written" proof that either character can win or lose. I've tried showing that Meiling and Remilia are on par with each other in a fair fight, and apparently that's not enough because human players lol.
So to hell with it. I'm not gonna bother with this. And watch as he says "This proves Meiling sucks lolz"

If my excuses are paper-thin, and no one here also don't have any written proof, then both of our excuses aren't that big of a difference. You also never said that they were on par either. I wouldn't mind accepting that statement since it bears some credibility. I already suggested to stop the arguing as we wouldn't get anywhere.
Okay, I didn't want to say anything, but you're all being ridiculous.
For starters, let's settle the argument. Could Meiling beat Remi? Of course. Is it LIKELY? IMO, probably not. Either way, we'll never know for sure unless ZUN himself settles this argument. Which I don't see happening any time soon.
Your arguments will never be correct one way or the other. This is pointless. Laugh at the absurdity of the picture and move on.
Just... shut up for now.
(Meiling)Eh!?
Wait a sec… Don’t swing and crush Gungnir with your bare hands!!
Eh, violent!?
Wait!! So fast!!
Slow down…
Aaaa!!
