Tagging for different clothes

Posted under General

I've come upon posts recently with characters wearing different clothes. I've done this before, but now I've been puzzling over how to tag for it. Like post #311647: It's different from her normal garb, but it's not significantly more modern, casual, or even especially formal. It's just different. Or characters that are wearing more contemporary clothes than normal like in post #416012. It's got casual right now (maybe it's from living in a college town, but I'm not sure I'd call that casual really; debate for another day maybe), but it's also much more modern than the Victorian maid-like getup she normally sports.

So should we maybe start tagging things like alternate_clothes, modern_clothes and vintage_clothes for those times when it's the other way around?

Sort of. If we redefine what the tag means. It currently specifies, "For a game character, a costume other than the standard one that can be unlocked within the game."

What's more, I don't really feel that that provides quite enough descriptive granularity, though I can't qualify that well off the top of my head; gut says so.

We have contemporary as a tag actually. "Tag appropriate when characters who are usually from an archaic or fantastical setting take on characteristics from contemporary life, be it in clothing, environment or something else." - Seems to fit what you're looking for.

So contemporary takes care of that. As for the opposite situation, I don't know if we have a tag yet.

alternate_costume sounds like it's overlapping to some degree with player_2 right now.

For some reason that never occured to me. Maybe because it's twice as long as "modern"? :/ Also, all of these are about clothing but...well, to search for the it I'd go to tag search and type cloth or run an image search against *_cloth*, and not get what I'm looking for. It seems sort of against our usual grain, considering we have more than forty tags for describing exactly where semen might be found.
