Anonymous appeal messages

Posted under General

I haven't appealed anything in a long time, but I noticed approvers can now post anonymous messages to your appeals? Which is fine I guess, but when I wrote appeal reason as "Quality in line with others from this artist" I got a smarty comment "Yes, some of the other posts by this artist are just as bad.". Not really helpful/useful IMO. I don't know what "bad" here means, and why majority of the uploads for this artist have then been approved then, if that's the case.

"Quality in line with others from this artist" is a very common appeal reason which doesn't really mean anything. It could just as easily imply that the rest of that artist's works should be flagged for consistency instead. It's because of this that some approvers can get a little snarky when they see this kind of appeal. Honestly though, there's not much you can write in an appeal reason that will change an approver's mind on a post. If you want proper feedback, I'd recommend posting in topic #7934 or joining our Discord and asking for advise there.

If majority of a certain artists works are approved/not flagged, then I think it means there is a "baseline", that the artist produces works of "good enough" quality in general. But bigger issue IMO is allowing anonymous messages in the first place, because it can make some users think they can just get a free pass to say something "snarky". I guess I just expect such experienced users to have a bit more "professionalism".

Can’t speak for others, but using Danbooru for a long time only made me jaded, not more “professional”.

It's not specific to appeals. Approvers can leave a message like that on any flagged, pending, or appealed image.

Although it may seem snarky, you should read through the recent posts in topic #7934. I've basically got a single response to "Quality in line with others from this artist" on every page at this point. I've even recently expressed that I'm sick of seeing that reason. I've seen images like post #3760936 be explained with that reason.

As I have said a dozen times in that thread:
We do not look at the artist's posts before approving. We do not look at your other posts. We do not look at the copyright, the character, or whatever other tag you think we're hating on. We look at the image in front of us. And that is what we judge.

Well, I'll just leave the reason blank next time, saves everyone the time. Fortunately there's not that many posts that I'd want to appeal, but I do think it's a shame some of them are deemed "bad", whatever that means.
