Since when does Dr. Wily have a full name?

The MMKB has his supposed full name in Japanese (Ｄｒ．アルバート・Ｗ・ワイリー) and says that "Albert" is taken from Einstein, paralleling "Thomas" from Edison.
However, I would like to get the matter of periods for abbreviations in a name that is not fully abbreviated* out of the way, as well as a standardization (or revelation to me thereof) for "dr_*" vs "dr._*" vs "doctor_*" vs just dropping the title in favor of parentheses if needed for in-use tags (for an alias, "dr._wily" is fly). *hopes not to have been too pushy*
