redefinition on couples tag

Posted under General

It would be nice if someone could give a reason why couple must remain hetero-only. Preferably one that isn't "It has always been that way and is too established to redefine now.". I'm not overly concerned about heteronormativity in the tags, but as far as I can tell, the joining of independent concepts like "romance" and "being straight" in one tag only leads to clumsy stuff like mutual_yuri.

I'm definitely up for changing this. As Flopsy says, "being in a relationship" is completely independent from the genders involved.

That or the tag name needs to be changed to something that explicitly indicates heterosexuality to more obviously contrast it to the tags regarding homosexuality.

That solution certainly seems simple and general to me. Would an actual hetero tag really be necessary, though? Searching for couple -yuri should produce almost the same result. People who would be bothered by the odd futanari or yaoi couple probably have those tags blacklisted anyway.

Some members seem to be of the opinion that the meaning of mutual_yuri would not be adequately conveyed by yuri couple (and presumably not by any other tag combination like yuri happy_sex). However, that is a separate issue, and one that could be more easily dealt with if mutual_yuri was no longer used as recommended by Hillside Moose in forum #77837 (i.e. to indicate yuri couple without using the couple tag).
