[APPROVED] Tag alias: computer_keyboard -> keyboard_(computer); computer_mouse -> mouse_(computer)

Posted under Tags

create alias computer_keyboard -> keyboard_(computer)
create alias computer_mouse -> mouse_(computer)

Link to request

  • If you want to tag a keyboard, it makes sense to start with "keyb..." (not "comp..."), the autocomplete does the rest.
  • If you want to tag a mouse, it makes sense to start with "mous..." (not "comp..."), the autocomplete does the rest.
  • The tag keyboard_(computer) would be consistent with this other tag that uses the same style: keyboard_(instrument).

Previous discussions: topic #2189 (2009), topic #3972 (2010).

EDIT: The bulk update request #1495 (forum #143559) has been approved by @Hillside_Moose.

I thought the way it already was was the better solution since that's what you call them irl, and that all computer stuff is under computer_* making it look better.

But isn't it right that IRL people most often just a single word, just "keyboard" or "mouse"?

Like "I'm going to buy a new mouse" or "I can't play this game because my mouse is behaving strangely" (not "I'm going to buy a new computer mouse" or "I can't play this game because my computer mouse is behaving strangely")

Anyway, computer_* should still display both tags via the aliases. If you type "comp..." there are even other results like "computer_monitor -> monitor".

Actually, to be honest, I tested the "comp..." thing and it didn't work as expected. The keyboard and mouse aliases are working correctly, but "comp..." is not currently displaying any of them in the autocomplete. But I guess this is normal behavior, apparently new aliases or tags take some time to show up in the autocomplete.

Well since english isn't my first language I can't say how it is there but in Swedish we call the mouse "computer mouse" most of the time (keyboard still a single word because it's not the same word as the instrument), not that I care too much to try and reverse the alias, just wanted to vent my thoughts.

And you are right about the aliases, they take a while to show up since the counts doesn't update daily.
