The M27 IAR (18 posts) is essentially the US military adopted designated name of the internationally-recognized H&K HK416 (1500+ posts), which is accurately based on the HK416D variant. There are no significantly noticeable difference between both except specific mounting rail and barrel length.
For the similar reason Beretta M9 was aliased into more general Beretta 92.
