--EDIT--

This thread is now for reporting any and all kinds of unintentional usage of our comment system, such as spam, spoilers and abusive language. When reporting, please always try to add what the nature of the problem is (and if it's a spoiler, include the show and ideally the episode number). The comments system is useless enough without people bumping the same post just to copy everyone above them. It's not funny and voting down doesn't help (even if you hide their comments, they still bump the post).

Since it's probably not a good idea to harrass mods by mailing them every time I see one of these, I'll just make a list here. Requesting a nuclear strike on comments in the following:

Wow, that's completely ridiculous. And it also seems that some of our regulars have taken-part too, most of whom I thought would never participate in a spam-fest like that.

But yes, I would suggest following-through. There must be reprecussions for behaving like that.

Hmm, I can't find it, so I think the whole "This is a picture of Hatsune Miku getting fucked." / Captain Obvious exchange must have been nuked some time ago. That one went on for a very long time too.

It's not that bad if it's just a couple of pointless comments among usually good ones (sure it doesn't show a good example tho).
Good citizens have the right to be tempted from time to time right? The cumulative effect aside, it's not worse than a "aww~" or any other kind of worthless comments we all post sometimes (I doubt any of you never did anyway, my bad if then).

So, you're basically saying people who have been here a while and know the rules should be exempt and treated specially, while others -- who may not be familar with the rules (which they should be), and may have just been caught-up in a bad example -- should be treated more harshly?

That's kind of backwards, if you ask me.

But anyway, my point was that I'm in support of the aforementioned spam-nuking - I didn't mean to imply anything past that.

I don't want anyone to be punished for that actually, unless it goes beyond warnings.
I just reacted on the "can't believe that from honorable users" part, because we all have our slackening moments and not taking part into that spam didn't make us better than them overall.
(On a side note, I don't want to sound harsh here, so let me add that your kemonomimi_mode tag was a great idea and proved to be quite useful. :))

You're not helping the cause here by defending worthless comments, Cyberia-Mix. Obviously we're not going to blanket ban everybody, but they should at least be warned, and if they persist despite that, they should be punished.

I like 葉月's approach on post #633608. A seven day ban isn't going to kill the guy, but it might be enough for him to reflect on his actions.

I didn't say anything about punishing everyone. Again, all I said is that I'm in support of removing the spam - and that I was a little surprised that some of our more prominent members took part in it, since that can potentially set a bad example for others.

But yeh, it's not really that big of deal. And personally, I don't (necessarily) think everyone should be punished, just those who continue(d) to spam after they were specifically told not to, and/or those who didn't spam in an orderly fashion should, as 0xCCBA696 put it =P

(and actually, it was sgcdonmai who came with the kemonomimi_mode tag name; I just suggested the idea.)

EDIT: Just to be clear, in my first reply, I meant that only people who continued to spam should be banned, not everbody. Sorry for being ambiguous.

Jeez, sorry to have posted in this thread, now I got misunderstood.

It was my way to reply that I wanted everyone to be treated equally while you were apparently saying it was worse from regulars.
I think we're actually on the same side and misunderstood each other. :D

And I know, that's why. :)

Soljashy > We're saying the same thing too.
I hope you're not thinking I'm defending worthless comments in general. I'm defending worthless comments among a majority of worthy ones, not because it's fun but because we're all like that, and it would be unfair to deny that towards usually good users who got caught in this.
I'm speaking about hasty judgement. Of course the sanctions should remain the same.
(Btw sorry for the typo I made on your name earlier in the other thread, hadn't reread myself.)

Making posts impossible to bump after a certain number of comments (like replies in imageboard threads) would solve this.

It might be a problem if someone has something useful to say afterwards, but useful comments are incredibly rare anyway.

I leave "comment again and get banned" messages where stuff like this is brought to my attention but there's simply no way I'll cover them all. Especially because I have to set up an entry in Update Scanner for each one in order to actually police it and back the threat up for any length of time (generally a couple weeks before I replace the entry with the latest comment policing crisis).

I believe it's more of a perfect example of why trying to police comments is a losing battle, personally.

You could always endow me with comment policing powers. I would nuke the hell out of all of 'em. >=]
