June 4th 1960, during night anti-submarine training in Tsugaru strait, Inazuma collided with Akebono. Inazuma's bridge is damaged with two crews dead and two others injured. According to JMSDF investigation, the cause of this accident is Akebono's miss. Inazuma is sent to Hakodate dock for repair, but in the next day during repair, gasoline explosion caused death of 3 crews and injured 4 crews and 2 dock crews.
Ikazuchi (thunder) and Inazuma (lightning)'s names' kanji can also be read together as "Raiden" (thunder and lightning). "Den" can also mean "electric", and is used commonly in conjunction with modern electronics. For example, "electric train" is "densha". (See post #2094206.)
