Interestingly, the Russians has already replaced, modernized their heavy machine guns at least twice in less than a century. DShK → NSV → Kord. Meanwhile the US still sticks to WWII-era Browning M2.

Really? Meanwhile the US largely replaced their homemade M1911 in favour of Beretta 92, despite the M1911 itself is considered the best thing ever happened to firearms design history. While the main issue itself was the mag capacity. Well-liked by civilian shooters as well as military personnel. But I think both NSV and Kord have better ergonomics thanks to the pistol grip.
I don't think it's perfect if the NSV performs exactly the same while weighing 2/3rds as much. You also don't have to re-headspace it every time you change the barrel, hated doing that.
