    餅 もち お餅

    A type of wagashi - a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into shape. It is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year and is commonly sold and eaten during that time.

    Wagashi
    arare | Roasted mochi flavored with soy sauce. Beans can also be used.

    hishimochi |From top to bottom, it's a mochi with the colors pink, white, and green. Eaten on Hinamatsuri.

    kashiwa mochi | Eaten during Kodomo no Hi.
    raindrop cake | Transparent, raindrop looking mochi.
    pon de ring | Mixed between a donut and mochi. Also just known as mochi doughnut.
    sakura mochi | Mochi in the color of a cherry blossom (sakura).
    zunda mochi | Mochi with mashed green soybean paste on top.
    kusa mochi | Mochi infused with Japanese mugwort.
    hanabira mochi | Flat mochi wrapped around anko and candied burdock, shaped like a petal.
    yakimochi | Grilled or broiled mochi.
    kirimochi | Rectangular mochi.
    Daifuku
    daifuku | Mochi with a sweet filling, usually a red bean paste.
    ichigo daifuku | Mochi with a strawberry inside.
    mame daifuku | Adzuki beans or soybeans are mixed into the mochi or the filling.
    mikan daifuku | Mochi with a mandarin orange inside (top part of the image).
    yukimi daifuku | Ice cream mochi.
