Fixing the undiscussed change to presenting

Posted under Tags

For 12 years, the presenting tag had a definition which made it clear that it was only meant to be applied when the person presenting was a woman. A couple months ago, without any forum discussion, the definition was changed to include both sexes. Granted, the naming of the tag should be updated to make it clearer (similar to assertive_female), and the male version should also be tagged. But I don't think the two should be combined under a single tag.

The people who wish to see one will often not care for the other and people who wish to avoid one will not necessarily want to avoid the other. Additionally, there is currently no single combination of tags which differentiates presenting_male from presenting_female. male_focus will exclude posts which also feature women, which is also why the sex count tags (1girl, 1boy, etc) won't do it. yaoi and implied_yaoi are not always present, and neither is bara. There's no flawless way to separate the two concepts.

This is kind of a problem. Even as a man who is attracted to other men, there are very few contexts in which I would like to see a dude's gaping butthole unless that's what I'm specifically looking for.
I propose that the tag be split into 2 separate tags: presenting_male and presenting_female.

@Admiral_Pectoral I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this matter.

I don't get it, isn't your point that people looking for pussy don't want to see male / otoko no ko ass?

His point is that the problem goes both ways, and male focus doesn't work to distinguish them because the presence of a girl invalidates male focus whether you're looking for presenting boys or not (example: post #2843882 post #2955381). Posts like those wouldn't show up in presenting male_focus but would show up in presenting -male_focus, and I can't think of a blacklist combination that would exclude specifically posts with a presenting male with a female presence without neutering the rest of the search.

We've done the same with other tags, like pubic hair, so I'm in favor of a separation. I also take serious issue with rewriting a tag with such a clear and unambiguous long standing wiki without at least mentioning it somewhere, even if people have been using it for boys all this time regardless.

It sounds strange to make a gendered versions of tags that are actions, verbs. Presenting could work as a single tag for both females and males just fine imo.

The problem is what blindVigil just expounded on. In basic terms, there's no way to currently look at only female presenting. Any way you try to search for female presenting would either completely include or exclude males. You couldn't, for example, find an image of a female presenting with a male—also in focus—not presenting.

I see. Presenting female and Presenting male could work I guess, the name will sound a little strange but I doubt there will be a better one. I was wondering, if we make these tags, would we have Presenting as an umbrella tag for both?
