Time for more janitors?

Posted under General

By looking through the deletion appeal thread and what has not been approved (parts of existing comics) it seems we might be a little light on mods/janitors.

This could just be a touhou thing but since it is summer I am guessing it might be more universal.

I'm pretty sure it is just a Touhou thing. With all the Touhou that's uploaded, it tends to get judged more thoroughly than other things so people won't upload mediocre stuff and expect it to get approved just because it's Touhou.

As long as we're here: are all the janitors/moderators/whoever going through the appeals list regularly? There are quite a few posts floating around there that should have been reapproved as a matter of policy (e.g. unapproved, translated pages from otherwise approved comics) but have remained deleted.

I used to but the new interface is a mess and I haven't done so since it was implemented. This doesn't really change anything when it comes to comics as I only approve a tiny tiny subset of all comics posted anyways.

I don't mean general images, just parts of comics that are status:deleted but should have been approved via policy.

Also there have been parts of comics that have been appealed both on their page and in the deletion appeal thread more then once that in some cases are still deleted.

Dang didn't realize there was a technical aspect to this potential issue as well.

I've also been wondering: I know that comic pages are approved on an image-by-image basis, but i've seen a couple of completely blank pages that got approved in the past, with no pictures or text. That can't be standard policy, can it?

IIRC, if one post of a sequential post is approved, the entirety of the comic has to be approved. That includes things like blank pages and the like.

Speaking of which, how is the appeal system? I've noticed a number of posts that had legitimate appeals, generally because they were comics, that went on for weeks without approval, even after I posted some in the deletion appeal thread.

im assuming janitors and up are given a link or option to view appealed images. would make sense that i can't seem to find a way to view recently appealed images through the site unless im looking in the wrong places.
though i can view them from this link posted in the forums a while back
http://danbooru.donmai.us/post_appeal/index?page=1

actually looking through the wiki, I couldn't find mention of the new appeal system unless again i was looking in the wrong section.

Not has to, but certainly the bar is much lower, and yes a mostly blank cover or middle page would be accepted most of the time.

We stress the "each page should stand on its own" not as an ironclad policy but as a deterrent to inexperienced uploaders who might think uploading 30 doujins is a great way to get started.

Just curious is there a situation where an image would not be approved in this case?

Say for example, would 3-4 blank pages in a row just be "trimmed" to 1?

I meant more like the art is just utter garbage or some TOS violation is present. I've occasionally seen pages of comics appealed that I just could not in any way justify undeleting.

Thanks for the clarification.

Two of the suggested criteria for appealing (part of a pool, translated) are taggable - perhaps the mod queue UI should have a visual icon or something to represent them.

This way we don't have to appeal them for those reasons, because the janitors will already know.

I realize that the appeal process is not a majority rules situation and that the new process should generate more appeals then the deletion thread.

However, there are post that have had 8, 9, 10, even as many as 14 people appeal it and that's just me looking at the first two pages of appealed post. That they are still there generating appeal after appeal to no effect makes me think that there is a serious flaw somewhere here.

Ya only a few mods/janitors/etc. regularly check it.

The big flaw I can see it if blacklists still apply to it. Certain subsets of images (specifically touhou) seem to be blacklisted or just flat out ignored.

It sometimes seems to be the case of actually having enough mods/janitors who like certain content and who happen to be around.

Goes to show how much perceptions can vary. One of the biggest complaints people who don't like Touhou have is that "a lot of bad Touhou art gets approved just because it's Touhou", while your concern is the exact opposite.

Anyway, you should expect to see more Touhou deleted than anything else, because an utterly gargantuan amount of Touhou art gets posted. More post attempts = more deletions.
