Possible tag: too_many_pikachu

Posted under General

Some posts just have too many Pikachu together.

(Similar tag: too_many_cats.)

I assume the tag multiple_persona does not count as an alternative, because these Pikachu can just be many members of the same species, instead of the same character appearing over and over.

currently, we have these tags:

And, of course, the most obvious and well-known tags of big groups:

And some pools of groups of people:

And some pools of sets of other things:

Until this pool or tag gets made, here's another candidate: post #1018675

In my opinion a tag like too_many would work. You'd get a theoretical possibility of false positives searching for too_many dog (like say, an image with too many cats and 1 dog), but I think it's not really worth worrying about. Pool would work too, but I dunno if this is really subjective at all. I mean, we could even define it, like say more than a dozen clones, or so.

Heh, since when are pools exclusively subjective? I mean, yeah, we've been over this before and established that our singular pool object has three kinds of role; just sayin'. (There HAS been some effort lately to transition a number of them to tags, but others are less likely.)

I prefer a tag for the same reason the recent action in the pointless pools thread is important: we can pare down pools to serving two roles instead of three (I contend we could get them to one quite easily with a new first-class tag type, but I digress)

Let's roll with too_many, as an umbrella as Anelaid suggests.

i'm fine with the too many catchall (refuses to use umbrella at the moment) tag + item_of_interest as suggested above.

we could also keep the 'too many variants' like cats and dogs since they are most common.

how about the lesser variants of too many umbrellas (1 post) and too many rabbits (6 posts)? are we going to keep them or use the catchall only or use them both?

and how about the pikachus in the posts mentioned above? what is the threshold for too many? does it require to fill the screen/image in obvious magnitude? post #584883 and post #947406 have particularly many.

post #862691 has 8; post #876443 has 9; post #669278 has 5; post #308170 has 6; post #456254 has 4 though (didn't checked everything)

slightly off-topic:
regarding the activity in the pointless pools, would it serve the community's best interest if we have a separate Pool to Tag Thread or it's better to create a separate thread for every occurrence? placing a well-used and active pool in the 'pointless pools' and subjecting them to intense discussion is a little misleading. thanks.

Let me correct some of your numbers:

post #862691 has 10; post #669278 has 4 (but, counting the Pichu, there are 5 Pokemon indeed)

I support the idea of creating a thread for converting pools to tags; and I think the same thread could be used for the reverse operation.

The name of the thread could be "Tag<->Pool Conversion".

too_many_cats's wiki's limit has been 6, but I honestly think 4 or 5 would be fine too. The vast majority of posts on the cat tag or the clone tag only have 1 or 2. Adding some searchability to there being any sort of grouping of the same character or animal wouldn't really dilute the tag too much for people who just want to see absurd amounts of things, because it'll ultimately be a pretty small tag anyway.

If we do make a catchall tag it might be wise to make separate ones for objects and animals though. Maybe even one specifically for character clones too.

Compact threads are only worthwhile when there needs to be zero discussion. Really, you guys need to stop discussing shit in the pointless pools thread as well, splitting pools that need discussion into new threads.

it's fine for me too. im just curious for a uniform threshold so that the future too_many + item_of_interest (combination tags) is really too many even if it might fall too into clone or multiple persona. multiple persona is aliased to quintuple_persona the wiki says, so maybe that's why 6 is the minimum for too many cats?

and i think specific too many characters/objects/animals (one long tag) with lots of posts are already considered and will stay (or created). right?

all right, i maybe the one at fault here. it's pretty much obvious that my suggestion was indeed unpopular there. and it's already more than half a day after ended my argument and i gave up.
as far as i know it's over now. just waiting for jxh2154's "Checked to here" and i'll delete my posts or some mod can do. i've moved to somewhat related thread instead at forum #67760 so no more worries of "discussing shit". i apologize. thank you.

I went ahead and created too many pikachu and populated it.

The tag too many should be created eventually, per this discussion, even if exact numbers and subsets (like "too many zebras" and whatnot) have not been decided yet.

OK.

Agreed, we definitely need a too_many catchall tag, and we can make subset tags as needed. There ought to be one for general instances of too many of X character like in post #1026815 and post #1011668, since I don't think we have any tags at the moment to indicate such large human groupings.
