AI-generated art check thread

Does this artist just happen to have a painting style that's (unfortunately) highly reminiscent of AI? Compare April 2023 and June 2022 with Nevember 2021 or February 2022 I'm leaning towards thinking this artist just has a strange painting style, especially because this artstyle seems to have developed before generative AI took off.

Nothing AI about this artist at all as far as I can tell.

It got a community note about being AI on twitter, but I would like ask for a second opinion on post #7286347

If you click on this account's media tab it blasts AI so hard your neurons turn into silicon. On this image the high contrast shading is taking up space that'd otherwise be swarming with different elements melting into each other, but you can still see some obvious artefacts like the shoelaces, one of the belt ends splitting into two (and why is it twice the length of her waist circumference), randomized pocket shape and empty mismatched pupils.
The link in the community notes is complete BS though, you can't rely on AI to detect AI.

Why is this artist getting some of their stuff tagged as ai-assisted? Specifically, the recent stuff artist #255761

They post at a very realistic pace (it was almost 2 weeks between his 2 most recent posts) and their art style has evolved in an extremely believable way over the past ~2 years.

It's hard for me to believe he's using AI in any way shape or form but I'm open to be proven wrong. From what I can see they have no real red flags and a pretty unique art style? Their very first posts predate any sort of AI image generation (https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/92338942) and, again, it seems like their style has evolved in a 100% believable way.

Did I miss something? I truly don't get it.

I tagged it assisted because if nothing else they started using it for backgrounds last year, the ones using their latest rendering style all feature varying degrees of typical broken continuity. As I understand it, our definition of ai-assisted includes everything from 1% to 99% AI involvement, it's not intended to immediately discredit an artist as overrelying on it.

I think that might just be the face the artist likes to draw. They've been drawing in a similar style since at least 2021 (https://twitter.com/negi_20010218/status/1592301146084757505), and they've got a recent time lapse that seems legit enough (https://twitter.com/negi_20010218/status/1752322051258630390).

Good point, it does look consistent. The lines still put me off, but that does explain the face and general vibes.

I'm really not sure about it being consistent. They more or less completely redefined their linework quality, faces, and shading style in the span of a week (Jun 21 vs Jun 27), the new images are full of strange inconsistent details that weren't present in their earlier work (e.g. the chain in post #7012926 and upscaling artefacts in post #7025641), they switched from regularly sharing WIP screenshots to only posting blurry screen photos of an unusual setup (no layer modes for what appears to be shading layers, even though they did make use of layer modes in the past).
Most conspicuously, the timelapse doesn't show any backtracking at all, which means either they're skilled enough to bring their vision to canvas at first stroke every time (doubtful), it's edited, or they're tracing something we do not see. I think they're just painting over j.k.-styled outputs, although obviously there's no way to "prove" this.

Oof, that's pretty strong evidence. That's what I get for not checking carefully enough, sorry.
