The Vtuber Alternate Costume Tagging Proposal

If an unofficial outfit gets enough recognition and fanart, it would make sense to give it a tag, just don't count it in the nth costume system.

Does this mean that Houshou Marine's nun costume (post #4880115), which later became a psuedo-official costume used in her confession stream should get its own tag? Given that this specific nun outfit is distinctive enough to stand out from other skimpy nun outfits, and that many cosplay tags of Marine specifically involves this outfit?

I personally think that costume should get a tag. It's very commonly used and recognizable to the point that I've seen people think it is an official costume of hers, there are also hundreds of uploads for it. For other unofficial or semi-official costumes, we should probably set a minimum amount of posts needed for it to be notable enough for a tag, just so people aren't making tags for every outfit idea fans think up. I was thinking 10 posts minimum, but that might be a bit low.

i am among the people who thought it was an official alternate costume
i think a minimum of 10 can work if it's from 10 different artists rather than just 10 posts, given variant sets can play a big role in that

Here's the problem with that approach - no one's going to care what a minimum would be, because they'll see official costumes or skins which have lower. If we start making tags for stuff like this now, then this costume creation trend is going to become an actual epidemic, no longer contained to just Touhou and a few select other copyrights. The entire alternate costume tag will be up for grabs to be dismembered and turned into chartags, because all people will need to hear is "oh, if a specific outfit is drawn with a character, they can get a tag" and go fucking hogwild without doing any further research.

Even with all this official costume stuff going on right now, I've had to step in multiple times to correct chronology because there have been users that didn't do diligent research to actually figure out whether or not what they're tagging is proper, which is extremely important. Especially for lesser popular VTubers, the info about their costumes may not be documented properly, whether it be in English or in general, and the last thing we want to do is spread false info about them that'll carry over to every booru that scrapes from Danbooru.
