Apparently this isn't a thing yet.

"Colors" for the pride ones due to the fuckton of accessories with color schemes meant to represent some pride flag.

A third of American Flag is bikinis and legwear.

You have multiple non-nation, such as Texas, flags being put onto national flag.

And, yes, this is mostly padding. Not every concept needs a series of umbrellas.

Everything except Union Jack can easily be found with a *_flag search, and an argument could be made for Union Jack to be aliased to British flag.

We have 50+ individual national flag tags and any *_flag type search also results in anything from pride flags post #7494725 to checkered race flags post #7500710. That's a candidate for an umbrella tag if I've ever seen one. I wasn't able to find any general term for "geographic" flags that includes both state flags, city flags, etc and I highly doubt we want separate print, legwear, bikini, shirt, etc tags for each of these categories so I removed those from the initial list but apparently missed texas, my bad.

Country flag prints also tend to show the actual design rather than just being a accessory with a palette like pride flags. If a unified tag existed posts featuring national flag prints as opposed to lgbt could be found with national_flag *_flag_print or it could have the color qualifier or a print tag.

How about something like "flag_(geography)"?

The fourth result on American flag right now is post #7493902 first on Argentina is post #6913905 (NSFW)

If there were only physical flags in the tag it'd be worth umbrella-ing, but a flag that is background patterns, bikinis, and real flags is too broad. I also don't think it's worth seperating the flag print from actual flags for most of these to "fix" it. Some like American flag probably have enough to actually be divided, though most like Chilean are so small there is no point.

Could the rainbow flags instead be implied to lgbt_pride? Wiki on that says wearing pride-themed clothing is enough.

Lol. Its their battle flag there not the traitors proposed national flag. Rising_sun_flag has the same issue.

Country flag print is definetly a thing. Especially when they outnumber pride flags in the amount of different ones.

I don't see the logic in umbrellaing lgbt pride flags even if it's just themed clothing but not national or otherwise geographic flags. Those are arguable harder to search for. If the word "flag" it allows for it to still be effected by *flag* which can/will be useful for search operators both in terms of flags and pride being a common word.

A:There's less of them and they are more visually unified.
B: There is already a tag that is supposed to unifiy them so it's more like a missing implication.

The problem I have with the country flags is the fact that it's NOT really flags but a hodgepodge of flag prints and other stuff. There is no overarching visual theme and it ranges from actual natuonal pride to "This character in a bikini with stars and stripes." This is something I think the gay flags do better because most of them are under the them of gayness and pride.

Not going to talk in circles so I hope some other users share some thoughts.

True that, but gay pride accessories are also sometimes just a background thing rather than the center of the picture metaphorically.

I've been wanting to do the lgbt bur in a way is preemptive for tags being populated and makes flag and/or lgbt related searches easier but there's two core issues and I would like some suggestions from other users:

1) There are pride flags for things that are technically not lgbt such as kink or polyamory. Looking at e6 as an example (high concentration of lgbt users) those tags will likely be populated as well at some point alongside lgbt pride flags. So not all pride flags are lgbt pride flags.

2) Lgbt pride nearly always involves pride flags but not always. Something like "love is love" written over a picture of two guys kissing is still gay pride even without any color. Imo the umbrella tag should have "flag" in the name for the purpose of search operators.

The solutions I've been considering so far are:

1) Alias all the individual (lgbt) pride flag tags from "lesbian flag" to "lesbian pride flag" etc and imply them all to lgbt pride: Pride flags having a unified suffix allows for filtering between lgbt and others, for *pride_flag* to still be used as a search operator for looking for ANY pride flags, for *pride_flag* -lgbt_pride, for lgbt_pride -pride flag to be used for flagless pride (as opposed to filtering out random nonspecific flags with lgbt_pride -flag, the former could potentially also be used to find untagged pride flags) not to mention niche pride flags, for *flag* to be used for any type of flag, etc. So far this seems the best option.

2) Imply everything to lgbt_pride_flag which implies lgbt pride: This allows for the above with a dedicated tag but is tag padding by having lesbian pride flag -> lgbt pride flag -> lgbt pride. And so on.

3) any version of the above with a "_color" suffix to account for accessories: Might sound stupid and make tags overly long. Lesbian_pride_flag_colors vs lesbian_flag. This could however allow synergy with geographic flags with *_flag_colors.

Solution one from above.

There are pride flags for things that are not necessarily lgbt related such as bdsm, leather or polyamory and not all lgbt pride involves flags.

Having a shared suffix rather than exclusivly depending on the "lgbt pride" implication allows for the following:

*flag*: any type of flag.

*pride_flag*: looking for ANY pride flags. Lgbt or not.

*flag* -*pride_flag*: flags that are not pride flags. (As opposed to -lgbt_pride which only catches the ones with enough posts to be implied)

*pride_flag* -lgbt_pride: for non lgbt pride (preemptive) and gardening untagged lgbt_pride posts with flags with post counts too low for implication.

lgbt_pride -*pride_flag*: to look for lgbt pride not involving flags (unlike filtering out random nonpride flags with lgbt_pride -*flag*) and to potentially find untagged pride flags.

lgbt_pride *pride_flag*: Lgbt pride with potentially niche flags, might be redundant

It also has the side effect of preventing the gay "bear flag" from being slapped on flags with bear designs....
